Innovation and experimentation are the life blood of our work. We cannot “see” the cycles and energies and symbolic connections of an astrology chart, so it is important to explore possibilities and potentialities.
One recent innovation is the composite chart, discovered by John Townley in the early 1970s. The composite chart is a unique chart where two natal charts are “combined together” based upon the midpoints between their planetary bodies. Some astrologers view that combined chart as the chart of the relationship as an entity itself. Others have theorized that this chart represents the “energy” of the relationship as it is felt by the two people (and others). Whatever the interpretation, there does appear to be some validity and rationale in blending the energies of multiple charts to obtain a more personalized expression of those energies based upon their mutually shared midpoints.
That perspective is key here. Because when we speak of composite charts, we are often referring to a literal human relationship. But if we think about it, human beings are just footprints of existential characteristics symbolized by the map that is their astrology chart. They are a nexus of energy just like any chart in this reality. So, if a chart is just a chart and composite charts represent the shared experience then we should be able to combine any two charts, regardless of whether those charts correspond to living entities.
This opens up a vast array of possibilities, but one that stands out to me are solar return charts. Solar returns are not new and have been utilized for centuries. A solar return chart is created when the Sun, in its yearly journey, returns to the lint in the sky where it was when the individual was born. At that exact moment of return a chart is drawn and then delineated in order to obtain insights about the coming year.
Solar returns are one of my favorite prediction methodologies. Their representation of the year ahead are usually right in the mark, but sometimes I sometimes I think they can be a bit too high level. This area of exploration made me wonder, “What if we combined the natal with the solar return in order to get a composite chart?”
So, I did it. I experimented with many auspicious and challenging years for myself and friends and family. Then I expanded that research to many celebrities and discovered that this new type of composite chart (which I am calling the return composite) offers unique insights into the year ahead that may prove useful. First, let me share a few immediate observations:
- The return composite shows a more personalized perspective of the upcoming year.
- It often repeats themes from the solar return chart, but represents those themes differently. In fact, those repeated themes are often more specific in the return composite chart.
- Themes and alignments that repeat have a higher degree of significance.
- For obvious reasons, the sign placement of the Sun will be the same between the solar return and return composite charts. But like the solar return chart, the Sun’s house placement in the return composite chart is crucial.
I have tested this methodology on numerous charts and case studies, but for now we are going to review this methodology using one example that I found to be highly interesting.
The two charts below are connected to Donald Trump. Chart A is his solar return chart. Chart B is the return composite that is the combination of his natal and solar return charts. These charts represent the 2024-2025 year, the year that Trump won the presidency a second time. (Typically, it is recommended that the natal chart be included in a bi-wheel with the solar return chart, but for the sake of simplicity we will just work with each chart by itself.)

The 2024 election proved to be challenging for the astrological community. Many astrologers predicted a Kamala Harris victory, but that obviously did not come to pass. And chart A, the standard solar return, reflects some of that complexity because it does not exactly scream a victory for Trump. The t-square configuration (yellow lines) involving a Gemini stellium, chart ruler Moon, and a very disillusioned Saturn in Pisces reflect an individual who is doing working overdrive to gain power and fame. The 12th house focus of this configuration as well as the disappointment from Saturn’s hard aspects leads me to believe that they will not be successful in these efforts and that failure could result in huge losses and worse, possibly imprisonment. On the other hand, this 12th house focus could also represent a massive amount of activity (mutable t-square) that is going on behind the scenes.
The square aspect (red line) from 10th house Neptune to the stellium reinforces this suggestion. A victory may require some degree of confusion or deception. The Mercury – Neptune square is very specific for this delineation and Mercury is combust, the 12th ruler, but also dignified. These are deep plots or plans kept hidden or shrouded.
The square aspect (red line) from Mars in Taurus to Pluto is ugly. Its placement across the 11th and 8th houses symbolizes powerful acquaintances who are willing to go to war to protect their power and money. This tells me that if the activities going on in the 12th do not work, this aspect is coming.
Trump’s upcoming victory is best symbolized by the trine (blue lines) from midheaven (MC) ruler Jupiter to the part of fortune (POF) and Pluto. Jupiter is debilitated, but it is also disposited by that strong Mercury. Its placidus 11th house placement shows that his friends and acquaintances are a strong support for him as they work behind the scenes (12th house dispositor Mercury) because he is not strong enough on his own to pull this off. Given these dynamics in chart A, it would have been hard for me to have predicted a victory for Trump.
Chart B, the return composite, is a different story. The most significant dynamic is Jupiter rising. Jupiter is the lord of the POF while also in trine aspect (blue line) to that POF. This placement is extremely auspicious and powerful enough to confirm a victory all by itself. It should all not be ignored that the ascendant is repeating Trump’s natal ascendant. Jupiter was delivering tremendous success and opportunity to him, his persona, and brand.

Jupiter’s dispositor, the Sun and its placement in the 11th, repeats the same theme we saw in chart A: Trump’s success is dependent upon his network of alliances and friends.
The square aspect (red line) to the 4th house Scorpio Lilith, Moon, and Pluto is brutal. It shows that Trumps intends on using his success to making himself a king and unleash a harsh destabilization of families and attack many of the foundations that hold together country. This square is ICE, the deportations, the detention centers, the attempts to redefine citizenship, the mass firings via DOGE, etc. The trine (blue lines) to 12th house Mercury and Venus (Venus also the 4th ruler) underscores and confirms that all these efforts will occur quickly and with little resistance.
But the main theme that repeats across both charts is the symbolism involving subversive activities, dishonesty, and deception. This is powerful represented by the hard aspect between Mercury and Neptune. In chart A, we have the square. In chart B, the opposition (yellow line). As we saw in chart A, the nature of the support Trump receives is suspect because Sun is then disposited by Mercury who is overlapping houses in its placements in placidus 11th and whole sign 12th. They are working behind the scenes to help twist the election in his favor. So, who are those friends exactly?
This is where things get interesting because the chart B uncovers some wild correlations. If we compare the energies of Elon Musk’s chart to these two charts we see more improbable alignments. In chart A, Musk’s Sun, ascendant, and Mercury are aligned with A’s ascendant. In chart B, those same energies are aligned with B’s Mercury, Venus, and Chiron across the 11th and 12th houses. Given Musk’s strong, visible support for Trump during the campaign, the alignments with A make a lot of sense, but B seems to infer the exact nature of that support, which is brought into clearer focus when considered alongside the opposition to B’s deceptive Neptune. Chart B is making the suggestion the Musk is very busy supporting Trump in ways that are not visible to everyone else.
These charts offer interesting perspectives of the year ahead that would unveil for Trump. What is fascinating is that while each chart depicts the upcoming year in a different manner, the key themes from each tend to echo each other. Yet while there appears to be agreement, chart B offers a clearer view of those themes as well as a stronger argument for Trump’s eventual victory. Chart B presents a more personalized view, possibly because it is explicitly blended into Trump’s natal energies. The 4th house stellium offers a chilling glimpse into what Trump was planning for the country.
Lastly, it cannot be overstated how big the repeating suggestion is that he did not win the election honestly. This general sentiment has been steadily growing over the past year by organizations who have noted various statistical anomalies and unusual data patterns associated with the 2024 election vote results. If this work eventually uncovers a massive case of voter fraud, then that would validate both charts as well as this new methodology. It will be interesting to watch as the evidence continues to grow.
I encourage everyone to explore your return composite charts. Based upon my research, the return composite shows a marked tendency to offer an additional layer of confirmation into projections for the upcoming year. See what deeper insights you can uncover for yourself.
Also, while I have used this methodology exclusively with solar return charts, I do not see any reason as to why this methodology should be isolated to just the return of the Sun. Try this with other significant return charts like Mars, Jupiter, or even Saturn.
