There are two formative principles underlying astrology: synchronicity and the ancient occult law of correspondences from the Emerald Tablet – “as above, so below.” If we hold these principles to be true then the entirety of the heavens opens up as an expansive palette of correspondence and meaning. Therefore, in our search for an area that symbolically contains the most significant potential for humanity, we must view our place in the cosmos with the widest lens possible. This would entail considering the entire galaxy and then finding its center, its core, its heart.

The Milky Way rotates or spins around its galactic center which contains a super massive black hole at its core. This black hole is so dense that its mass is millions of times greater than our Sun. The energy of this black hole is enough to power the Sun for 200 trillion-trillion years.

This black hole is essentially an anchor for the galaxy. It holds everything together. Physically, it is a focal point with god-levels of energy. It is a birth place and the source. And none of this is conjecture or hyperbole. It is fact. So, if we hold true the law of correspondences then this must infer that this focal point is symbolic as well. It is spiritual. Its alignment on the zodiacal ecliptic with sign of Sagittarius is a synchronicity that contains clues into our relationship with this source.

Sagittarius is a hopeful and positive sign quality that tends to maintain the goodness in life and existence. It seeks expansion of consciousness, whether this so through education or direct experience. It is a philosophical and spiritual sign that places a high priority on the quest for meaning and truth.

The Galactic Center moves slowly through the ecliptic at a pace of about 1° every 72 years. With its current position at 27° of Sagittarius, then this center has been moving through this sign for the good part of the last 2,000 years of human history.[i] Therefore, an argument could be made that the evolution of humanity became infused with these Sagittarian traits over this massive timeframe. It has reflected a dramatic expansion of consciousness not replicated through the prior Millenia. It can be hard to see this because this has been our reality for so long. But there is a way to evaluate this influence up close. By evaluating eclipses over the centuries, we can pinpoint specific timeframes when the Galactic Center was activated by eclipse activity. Using a 3° orb, the table below displays these alignments. It should be noted that this does not only include alignments with the Galactic Center, but also alignments with the point opposite in Gemini.

This data shows a clear trend. During the centuries (1400s – 1600s) associated with the Renaissance, there was a higher number of eclipses aligned directly with the Galactic Center. This means that the cultural rebirth, the expansion of exploration, the philosophical and humanistic progress, and the celebration of artistic innovation during this widely celebrated time in history was as a much a reflection of the Galactic Center expressing its core Sagittarian qualities as any other astrological influence.

The other noted trend in this data is the disappearance of Sagittarius alignments in substitution for heavy Gemini alignments from the centuries (1700s – 1800s) associated with the Age of Reason. Given Gemini’s association with the intellect and thinking, this subtle shift away from the Renaissance zeitgeist makes sense. This was the timeframe when Nietzsche famously stated “God is dead.” With Sagittarius eclipse alignments relatively absent, he was closer to the truth than he realized. But with the eclipses once again directly favoring the Galactic Center again through Sagittarius for the 2000 century, hopefully this may result in a rebirth similar to what was experienced centuries earlier.

All this provides a glimpse of how powerful the Galactic Center truly is and what it entails for humanity. It is an expansion of consciousness evolving us beyond just flesh and blood. It brings us into confrontation with spiritual and metaphysical truths and insights that broaden our scope of existence. What is on the other end of the black hole remains a mystery to humanity, but if that powerful energy is aligned with the specific qualities of Sagittarius, then we must have faith that the purpose of this connection is to raise us up with higher truths that can inspire us to move beyond our baser animalistic instincts and impulses. Specifically, to unify us with higher aspirations.

For those who have planets (especially personal planets) aligned with the Galactic Center, they have a unique connection to these energies and this purpose. This provides a degree of inspiration that can feel a little otherworldly, sometimes possessed. At the Sagittarius degrees, they are a personal embodiment of this energy. For those with planets or angles that oppose this source from Gemini, there is a subtle difference to their expression. Those energies work as more of a reflection point. They can see or feel this source, but they approach it with curiosity, as if it is something to be understood or communicated. But whether it is through embodiment or reflection, these individuals have a direct connection to the source of humanity. They have a unique role to play in our evolution.

Let’s take a look at some examples.[ii]

The Ascendant

People with the Ascendant aligned with the Galactic Center have an identity that draws others in. Their charisma is immediately noticeable. There is an energy about them and impossible to forget (Goldie Hawn, Raquel Welch).

They can have a knack for speaking truth(s) or trusted for their perspectives (Oprah Winfrey, Bertolt Brecht). Their identity can be associated with visionary and transcendent works (Michelangelo, Steven Spielberg). Some have a persona that feels downright mystical (Jimi Hendrix).

They have an inherent understanding of spiritual concepts and practices (Jimmy Swaggert and Emmanuel Swedenborg).

For those with ascendants on the opposite end in Gemini, their identity may revolve around their inspired approach and ability to inspire others. They can display a certain understanding of concepts that appear to come from somewhere else (MC Escher, Kendrick Lamar, Paul McCartney).

It should also be noted that this group often comes into contact and forms relationships with those who are directly connected to the Galactic Center. Their lives can become a revolving door of those bohemian types who embody expansive expressions of existence. But for those who own this energy personally, they can become known for analyzing and studying the spiritual workings of existence (Johannes Kepler, Richard Tarnas).

Midheaven

This group has an idealistic mission to channel energy and raise up others. The list of famous people who fall into this category is extensive (Thomas Merton, Allen Ginsberg, Johnny Cash, Wayne Dyer, Frank Capra, Richard Pryor, Pope Benedict XVI). These individuals are here to accomplish something special that involves something greater than themself.

The Sun

These individuals have a personality or aura that is larger than life (Joseph Stalin, Brad Pitt). They can fill up the room with their presence (Jake Gyllenhaal, Christina Aguilera). Some become figureheads for their political opinions and perspectives (Jane Fonda, Billie Eilish) while some have a healing or soothing effect on others (Pope Francis, Phil Donahue).

They have a connection to something transcendent that is pronounced. In some cases, it can be classified as genius and elevate their personality to iconic levels (Brian Wilson, Igor Stravinsky, Beethoven).

It is almost as the core sense of self is indistinguishable from a unique spiritual vision. And in rare cases, they become a literal extension of the Galactic Center (Wassily Kandinsky, John Milton, Dante Alighieri).

The Moon

The concern and caring nature of the Moon is amplified when aligned with the Galactic Center. The organization PETA was formed with this type of alignment. Alexander Fleming’s miraculous discovery of Penicillin is another example of the Galactic Center sharing knowledge that would allow us to better care for each other.

Emotional intensity is also another noticeable facet of a Galactic Center Moon. Trent Reznor, the front man for Nine Inch Nails, is known for the intensity he brings in exploring his emotions through music. Ironically, this music also contains insights in the disdain he has for religion and Christianity in particular.

Henri Matisse and Victor Hugo are additional examples of artists who were inspired to channel their emotion through their artwork. Matisse’s style involved using color in this manner. Hugo’s was the embodiment of Romanticism which was known for its dramatic and passionate emotion.

The intuition often associated with the Moon also lends well to those unconsciously connecting with the energies of the Galactic Center. These types have a knack for tapping into spiritual concepts (Sri Aurobindo, Jiddu Krishnamurti). This significance is more pronounced if the Moon is the sect leader of the chart.

But in one of the more literal manifestations, Neil Armstrong’s walk on the Moon was a manifestation of his Moon’s alignment with the Galactic Center. His words back to earth from that momentous event – “This is one small step for man, but one giant leap for mankind” – can be viewed as a direct transmission from the Galactic Center itself.

Mercury

In this research, Mercury appears to be one of the more emphatic examples of alignment. The numerous discoveries and advancements of Isaac Newton defined his age and the scientific community for centuries. This was a reflection of the expansive nature of his mind, which in turn was a reflection of Mercury connected to the Galactic Center.[iii] But the strongest alignments come from its reflection point in Gemini. Mercury’s dignity in this sign is amplified by its connection to this source and we find many thinkers who were gifted beyond belief. Nikola Tesla, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Frank Lloyd Wright, Robert Merton, Bob Dylan, and Stevie Nicks are just a small subset of individuals who were staring down that well spring of universal knowledge and channeling it through the power of their mind.

These individuals have the ability to change the world with their thinking. If genius has a correlation within astrology, it may be those with a dignified Mercury aligned with the god-like energies at the heart of our galaxy. They are truly gifted in every sense of the word.

Venus

When Venus is aligned with the Galactic Center, peace, harmony, love, and balance are the characteristics infused with a more expansive perspective of their place in this universe. These individuals have a unique way of finding and expressing beauty. They can see how these archetypes are intrinsic to humanity.

Fritjof Capra wrote “The Tao of Physics,” an exploration of the relationship between ancient spiritual conceptions and modern-day break throughs in quantum physics. The book showed that both areas, while appearing diametrically opposed, actually aligned on the larger underlying higher truths and revealed the beauty and harmony of our existence. Capra’s work is the epitome of Venus finding expression through the hidden spiritual insights at the Galactic Center.

This placement also makes its presence known through art, whether that is visual or written. Painters like Claude Monet and Frida Kahlo tapped into Galactic Center with their work as did writers and poets like Robert Louis Stevenson, Rudyard Kipling, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and Rainer Maria Rilke.

But in terms of the balance and harmony that Venus aspires to, a perfect expression of this Galactic Center insight can be found in Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s “Discourse on the Origin and Basis of Inequality Among Men.” This treatise is an example of Rousseau channeling Venus’ archetype from the Galactic Center, but through his intellectual Gemini polarity. As far as Galactic Center wisdom is concerned, Rousseau’s expression is perfection.

Mars

Passion is the most immediately recognizable trait of these individuals. They are burning with purpose and meaning. As such, they possess a fearlessness that is rarely seen anywhere else. While there are many in this world who live without a defined moral compass, philosophical direction, or existential code, those with Mars aligned with the Galactic Center possess a conviction that borderlines obsession. They live by it and they will fight for it (if necessary). If you happen to encounter these types, you will know if immediately. They have an edge and an intensity and a fierceness about their beliefs and truths that is distinct. They command attention. If you want to feel some of this, listen to a Billy Graham sermon or the reckless abandon of a Janis Joplin song.

While the Galactic Center energy channeling through Mars amplifies these individuals’ ability to inspire and motivate others (John Dalberg-Acton, Wayne Dyer), sometimes this passion can go against belief and faith itself. Sometimes, these individuals go to war with God.

So it was with Baruch Spinoza, the 17th century philosopher who boldly challenged just about every spiritual foundation of the church. In his book “Ethics,” his radical pantheistic views that equated God to nature (and vice versa) is an apt reflection of the manifestation we would expect to see from someone aligned with the Galactic Center. And if Spinoza were alive today, it is highly probable that he would view this entire exploration of the Galactic Center as validation of his theories. In other words, the Galactic Center’s impact on humanity echoes the core of Spinoza’s metaphysical beliefs. Because if humans are part of nature, and nature is God, then exploring this connection can be the basis towards rising above our passions (again, Mars) so that we can embrace our inner divinity. Does this sound familiar to much of the spirituality that runs parallel to astrological conceptions? It should. It was also Spinoza’s Mars at the Galactic Center. He embodied this energy. As such, he attacked everything that defined his existence. That is profile in courage.

Like many of the other expressions at the reflection point, Mars also expresses itself in a manner that channels the inspiration of the Galactic Center through the mind-oriented energy of Gemini. While Spinoza was an embodiment of this energy, René Descartes reflected it from the other end. His “cogito ergo sum” (“I think there I am”) is a transmission directly from the center. That inspiration of a higher truth was something that filtered through his Mars. For Descartes, deciphering this inspiration was a way to prove (i.e. justify) his existence.

Jupiter

Individuals with Jupiter aligned with the Galactic Center are blessed. Jupiter’s inherent benevolence is greatly amplified when channeling this well spring of energy. It tends to brings accolades, awards, recognition, and expansion across many different areas. There is a “greatness” associated with Jupiter’s presence here. The list of people associated with this alignment is like a who’s-who of the greatest and most celebrated in their respective fields. Just to name a few:

• John Elway and Tom Brady are two of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. Both continued their success by expanding into different areas after retirement.
• Babe Ruth is on just about every list of the greatest baseball players.
• John Madden and Mike Holmgren have won Super Bowls as coaches.
• WB Yeats and William Wordsmith are at the top of many lists of critically acclaimed poets.
• Jerry Seinfeld’s “Seinfeld” is often ranked as the number one sitcom in history.
• Ben Affleck has starred in just about every movie under the Sun and widely considered to be one of Hollywood’s best leading male actors. He has also expanded into a director and found success there as well.
• James Taylor’s expansive musical career has included multiple Grammy wins and an induction into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
• Vincent Van Gogh is consistently ranked as the greatest painter and artist in history.
• Charles Dickens is considered second only to William Shakespeare in literature.
• Clint Eastwood found critical acclaim both as an actor and director.
• Hermann Hess won the Nobel Prize for literature.

In countless examples, expansive cultural or artistic achievement seems to follow Jupiter when aligned with the Galactic Center, but Hesse’s example offers the strongest expression of Jupiter’s archetypal association with philosophy and spirituality. His book “Siddhartha” is a story of an individual’s spiritual journey and search for the meaning of existence. While this a fantastic example of Jupiter manifesting Galactic Center truths, it is also a reflection of Hesse’s equally dignified Mercury at the reflection point. In fact, Hesse’s entire body of work is an encapsulation of the Jupiter – Mercury polarity aligned across the Galactic Center.

The reflection point in Gemini also offers one of the more curious, if not literal, expressions of the Galactic Center. In 1977 an unexplained radio signal was received from deep space. This transmission lasted 72 seconds and came from the direction of the Sagittarius constellation, the home of the Galactic Center. While many theories have been proposed to explain the signal’s origin (yes, some believe it was aliens), it is possible that the answer is astrological. For at the exact moment the transmission was received, Jupiter was aligned with the reflection point in Gemini and placed in the 3^rd house of communication.[iv] This suggests a divine connection from the Galactic Center traveling thousands of light years (Jupiter) and received by our tracking systems (Gemini). And the purpose and meaning of that communication? Ah, but that chart delineation will have to be for another day…

Saturn

Saturn’s status as the god of karma, it’s primary function of (harsh) tests and challenges, and symbolic representation of authority and structure become more pronounced when aligned with the Galactic Center. People with this alignment become figureheads for Saturnian dynamics.

• The scientific work of Robert Cooke and Tycho Brahe are fitting for Saturn’s structure and the epitome of this archetype can be found in the age defining discoveries of Nicolas Copernicus. Copernicus proved the heliocentric system/structure of our galaxy through his disciplined Saturnian energies working out the math at the Gemini end of this polarity.[v]
• Sigmund Freud introduced us to psychoses involving repression and defense mechanisms as a result of ingrained fears, all of which are also representations of Saturn.
• Jackie Onassis became the picture of grief, the eternal widow moving on after the grisly assassination of her husband.
• George Lucas expressed his Saturn in literal fashion in his creation of Darth Vader, the ultimate archetype of the ruthless authoritarian dictator.
• In terms of non-fictional manifestation of Saturn’s authority, the lives of Martin Luther King Jr, Ursula K le Guin, and Anne Frank became emblematic of a confrontation with dysfunctional and toxic authoritative structures. With Frank, this manifestation became literal as she was barricaded in a home to hide from Nazi oppression.

The theme of karma appears the most resonant with this alignment. These individuals must be careful with how they attract the attention of this no-nonsense god. When he is aligned with the Galactic Center in your chart, Saturn will go out of his way to make an example out of you. With Jim Morrison and Billie Holiday, it took their lives after they spent years abusing drugs and alcohol.

The worst example of karma has to be Conor McGregor. The litany of bad behavior, charges, allegations, arrests, and convictions is so extensive (and ugly) that one could write a book on it. And McGregor appears defiant and unchanged despite how his karma has manifested so far. This means that the worst of Saturn’s expression has not yet arrived. Before the end I suspect that Saturn will make an example out of McGregor in the harshest, most visible way possible.

As we have seen with all the other planets, the Galactic Center has a way of amplifying their archetypes and characteristics. So it is for Saturn as well. For those individuals who can rise to the challenge, they will be remembered with all the dignity and respect and authority that Saturn bestows. And for the others? Good luck.

The Outer Planets

For the majority of individuals, the outer planets have a resonance that is difficult to channel or embody personally. These archetypes appear to be manifesting at a more generational level.

That said, there are a few individuals who rose to prominence because of their outer planet energy associated with the Galactic Center. They became a “spokesperson” for that generational energy. Robert Oppenheimer became synonymous with technology and innovation whereas Martin Luther became a face of revolution and change (both are avatars of Uranus). Karl Marx and Walt Whitman became expressions of the idealism and magic of Neptune. Dante Alighieri’s and William Blake’s focus on hell (or “evil”) was ultimately just a natural manifestation of their Pluto archetype channeled through the Galactic Center.

This is not to say that the average person cannot access outer planet energy, but that it is a bit more challenging than accessing it through the seven traditional planetary bodies. But when they do, they become something more than just an individual. They become something generational.

Midpoints

Even if you do not have a planet aligned with the Galactic Center it is important to note that midpoint alignments are just as resonant for this type of energy. For any individual who has the Galactic Center in conjunction or opposition with the midpoint of two planets, those planets are channels for that massive energy and wisdom at the center of the galaxy. Let’s take a look at few famous examples.[vi]

• Michael Jordan’s chart ruler Moon and 5th house (athletics, games) ruler Venus were channeled through the Galactic Center, making him one of the most recognizable athletes in modern history.
• Similarly, Muhammad Ali tapped into this energy through his ascendant and Mars and became the most widely recognizable boxer in the history of the sport.
• Bruce Lee had this energy at the midpoint of Uranus and Chiron and it manifested in his shocking, sudden death.
• Joseph Smith found this god-level energy at the midpoint of his Sun and Jupiter, Mercury and Neptune. These alignments correlate so specifically to his meeting with the angel Meroni that one could legitimately question whether he actually met an angel or if it was just an expression of that energy from the Galactic Center.
• Charles Darwin’s evolutionary theories on natural selection or “survival of the fittest” can be seen as an expression of the Galactic Center channeling through the midpoint of his Sun and Mars.
• Leonardo di Vinci’s archetypal status as the transformative polymath was the power of the Galactic Center being combined with his Sun and Pluto.
• Albert Einstein had a connection to this source through its alignment with the midpoint of his Venus and Uranus. This midpoint was activated in 1905, Einstein’s “Miracle Year.” Around this time, as transit Pluto was about to begin its journey opposite the Galactic Center, Einstein published his landmark papers that permanently transformed how we perceive the universe. The reason he became the epicenter of this manifestation is because Pluto was also transiting over his Venus/Uranus midpoint which included a square aspect to his natal Sun.[vii] He literally became a conduit of the energies of the Galactic Center. It was the perfect manifestation of the Gemini reflection point taking inspiration from those energies and transforming our understanding of the universe. Through the midpoint, he showed the elegance and creativity in breaking all the rules we had traditionally followed.

The strongest manifestation of the Galactic Center channeled through a midpoint is found with Carl Jung. Jung’s theories and insights on the collective unconscious, synchronicity, and archetypes were an embodiment of the groundbreaking truths that are available to humanity from this well spring of energy. The reason he was so tapped into this source was due to its alignment with midpoint of his Sun and Moon. This midpoint is arguably one of the most resonant because it was infused into the core of his being. But it should be noted that this midpoint was at the Gemini end, so this energy also became a point of curiosity, study, and communication.

Astrologers & the Galactic Center

One trend that became noticeably evident was number of astrologers who have a connection to the Galactic Center. This research confirmed literally the hundreds of individuals who study or practice, but are also infused with this energy. The evidence is overwhelming. Even the list below of some of the more famous and well known is eye opening:[viii]

Cornelius Agrippa (Mars), Tycho Brahe (Saturn), Chris Brennan (Neptune), Charubel (Venus), Frank Clifford (Ascendant), Barbara Hand Clow (Moon), Nicolaus Copernicus (Saturn), Joseph Crane (Mercury), Nicholas Culpepper (Jupiter), John Dee (Uranus), Michel Gauqueline (Venus), Johannes Kepler (Ascendant), Ed Koch (Jupiter), Lee Lehman (Jupiter), William Lilly (Midheaven), Anthony Louis (Mars), Charles Luntz (Ascendant), Tracy Marks (Ascendant), Jeff Mayo (Moon), R.H. Naylor (Jupiter), Glenn Perry (Mercury), Kelly Lee Phipps (Venus), Dane Rudhyar (Jupiter), Howard Sasportas (Jupiter), Sepharial (Ascendant), Becca Tarnas (Venus), Richard Tarnas (Ascendant), Bil Tierney (Venus), Noel Tyl (North Node), and Zadkiel (Sun).[ix]

If astrology reflects universal and spiritual truth then it would make sense that its students and practitioners have a connection to this source. The evidence for this is so strong that it makes the bold suggestion that this connection is a necessary indicator for an astrologer or one who studies this art.

Working with the Galactic Center

Various astrologers have noted the significance of meditating and reflecting on this connection when the Sun returns to alignment with the Galactic Center every December. I agree with this practice, but would also recommend working with this energy at other times as well. Specifically, when any transit or progressed body aligns with the Galactic Center. Note when those alignments are rising at the Ascendant for any given day. Use those moments to reflect on the energies of the Galactic Center, the planetary archetypes in alignment with that source, your natal planetary energies awakened and infused with its essence, what that means for you (and humanity), and how all this transcends physical existence. Meditate on this connection to the source of everything as your personal connection to truths that are eternal and timeless.[x]

The history of humanity is but a footnote to this source of existence. All our striving, all our beauty, all our passion, all the ways that reveal a feeling and intuition of our immortality has always been this connection to an encompassing energy 26,000 light years away. “As above, so below. As without, so within.” This ancient law of correspondences is not so crazy when considered alongside its equivalent modern discovery of geometric fractals. It is real. It is true. And this law proposes something massive: the source of all at the center of everything is at our core as well. Astrology will always detail our energies through the various planets and bodies; but those energies only serve the larger purpose of revealing our connection and unity with everything.
