Chiron, Capitalism, & Trump

Chiron’s arrival was a monumental event for humanity. This centaur (asteroid-comet hybrid) was discovered in 1977 and its naming was not an accident. Its association with the ancient mythology of the wounded healer has greatly sophisticated our understanding of the human condition. But suffering and healing, existential or otherwise, along with the wisdom that comes from addressing them are eternal concepts. So, it is meaningful that these archetypes were only recently made explicit to our consciousness. In her seminal book on Chiron’s influence,[i] astrologer Melanie Reinhart described this archetype as follows:

“The Chiron configuration often describes what connects an individual with his or her inner suffering, and also a route through this to healing.”[ii]

And…

“Areas of the psyche indicated by the Chiron configuration may be very vulnerable, as they show where we are wounded, even though these wounds may be unconscious.”[iii]

Chiron’s position between the orbits of Saturn and Uranus is resonant with symbolism. Saturn is the god of reality, structure, tradition, and boundaries. Uranus is, in many ways, the opposite of this. It is the god of change, progressivism, innovation, break throughs, and freedom. The fact that Chiron’s glyph literally looks like a key infers that it is a door way, gate, or bridge between the traditional archetypes known to the ancient world through Saturn and the new evolutionary trajectories that were unleashed by the outer planets with the discovery of Uranus. This is why Chiron is so important. He is the way forward from the past to the future. But given that he is also symbolic of a wound or handicap, then it seems intuitive that the way forward requires us to address this wound. The question is, “how can we gain insights into what that wound might be?”

The Chiron Chart

Fortunately for us, record keeping has greatly improved over the centuries. The precise moment of discovery for heavenly bodies is now well documented. With an accurate time, we have a “natal” chart for the archetype.[iv] Studying these charts is critical because they can offer insights into the inner workings of the archetype itself. For Chiron, these insights can be delineated from its discovery chart (below).

The dynamics that are of primary consideration are Chiron’s zodiacal sign, house placement, aspects, ascendant, and chart ruler. Chiron is positioned in the sign of Taurus which is associated with some type of wound of self-worth or a problem with values. As a result, issues with money can correspond to this Chiron position. These individuals can place too much emphasis on money or resources because they do not have a grasp of what is truly valuable or they may define themselves by money and material possessions because they do not understand their own self-worth. The retrograde status infers that this wound or blockage goes deep. It is a reflection of how materialistic civilization has become. Everything has become defined by possessions because we have lost sight of what has real value. This Taurean wound is a clear indication of the nature of our wound.

With Chiron in the 4th house, the area of family is where this obsession with materialism manifests most prominently. It has disrupted our roots, destroyed countries (imperialism, colonialism, exploitation), broken down families as people become more concerned with material wealth over shared ancestry, and made insecure the necessity of connection and support at the foundation of civilization. It is a symbol that our brokenness has also broken this foundation everything that holds us together.

Chiron’s aspects by opposition and square to the Sun and Mars create a t-square configuration that produces a high degree of stress. The opposition to the Sun is humanity’s struggle with identity and purpose in response to Chiron’s wound with overcompensation occurring as a result. Materialism has become the way we define ourselves. We have convinced ourselves that greed is humanity’s “natural state.”

Mars’ position at the apex of this configuration and in Leo shows that this wound has contributed to a desire to be worshipped or a competitive ruthlessness to be the “best.” Its placement in the 8th house is the massive amount of debt we are willing to incur to achieve this and when that is not enough it is also the violence and death on a mass scale that has resulted from our narcissism that has become inseparable (mutual reception with the Sun) from materialism. This t-square is horrific. It is the slavery, exploitation, murder, and genocide that are a common facet of our existence.

The ascendant in Sagittarius offers an apt correlation to the philosophical truths and teachings that Chiron espouses, but the particular degree of the ascendant offers something even more specific. It is aligned with the galactic center. This sensitive point in the sky is like a vortex of energy that connects humanity to higher truths and knowledge, raises our consciousness, and relays blasts of spiritual wisdom.[v] This alignment with the focal point of Chiron’s chart (ascendant) infers that part of this archetype is to develop an awareness and wisdom that stretches beyond the materiality of his physical reality. It is an attempt to pull us out of this swamp and find healing.

The chart ruler (Jupiter) is dignified and strong in Cancer. Its conjunction to an equally strong and dignified Moon in Cancer indicates that the way forward is based upon caring, nurturing, and family.

But there is another side to humanity as well. Part of us that is blocked or suppressed. This is due to the sign that is intercepted within the 1st house, Capricorn. This interception symbolizes a problem with identity. It shows that there is a part of ourselves that is trapped. The ruler of this interception, Saturn, is also in the 8th house (like Mars), but debilitated and anaretic at the last degree of Leo. We have become obsessed with controlling others through debt and exploitation. It is also humanity’s tendency towards fascism and authoritarianism built around total control of resources and finance (Saturn rules the 2nd house). It is the hidden identity of humanity, but it is not really that hidden. This toxicity has become a part of the human experience. But because it is intercepted (trapped) and connected to the 8th house, it is also the part of humanity desperate for healing.

From these dynamics, it is clear that Chiron’s discovery chart offers insights into the nature of the wound specifically associated with this archetype’s arrival at this point of our evolution. The inferences are so explicit that it would be hard to remain vague and broad about this. So, let’s be blunt: this chart is a condemnation of capitalism.[vi] And it is not wrong. By just about every metric we can find, this socio-economic system has failed humanity.

And as the dominant structure governing our relationships, it has become a cage as well. This is why Chiron’s position between Saturn and Uranus is symbolically fitting. For Saturn is tradition and structure while Uranus is freedom and independence. Between the two is a massive wound that must be addressed. This is why Chiron has arrived.

The Chiron Return

Chiron moves slowly through the sky. So slow that it takes a full 50 years to make one revolution through the entire zodiacal ecliptic. As a result, its return to its original placement is a milestone for any individual, but even more significant for Chiron itself because this exact return will occur next year, June 2027. Humanity is currently in the final stretch of the initial 50-year journey to fully grasp and come to terms with the wounding that Chiron made evident with its arrival. So, it is no coincidence that capitalism rose to power and became the dominant system across the world during this timeframe, but that its dysfunction and toxicity as an extension of our own wounding have also been painfully visible. Does the return chart contain clues that humanity might finally come to terms with our wounding?

Well, yes and no. This chart has some indications that we may be finally trying to address our blockages and obsessions with materialism, but there are other indications in this chart that things may get worse before they get better. Chiron’s house placement and aspects are one indication of this. In the return chart, Chiron has moved from the 4th to the 9th house. The 9th house governs higher truth, belief, philosophy, politics, and religion. This indicates that our focus on our wounding has shifted. For the upcoming 50-year journey, it will become a topic that receives attention through our political processes. Its historic influence on our philosophical perspectives will be studied.

Chiron is also the focal point at the apex of a t-square configuration. This adds emphasis to its 9th house placement. The opposition at the base involving the Moon and Pluto highlights a marked emotional intensity underlying Chiron’s manifestation. Groups are pushing back to transform (Pluto in Aquarius) and heal what has been wounding us so long and caused so much suffering (12th house Moon). This t-square feels like a complete destabilization of many areas of life, which will motivate the necessity to tear things down and rebuild (Pluto).

The crisis from this Chiron t-square seems to be connected to the themes of the second t-square involving Neptune, Mercury, and Lilith. Neptune, at the focal point/apex, is associated with a heightened degree of sensitivity. This archetype tends to blurs the boundaries that separate us as separate or disconnected entities. With its placement in the 8th house of shared resources, this configuration is a drive towards some type a program that redistributes resources to the rest of society (square to 11th house Mercury in Cancer). While the Chiron t-square reflects crisis and collapse, the Neptune t-square is the response to that.

But there is another challenge here and it is Neptune’s dispositor, Mars. Mars is placed in the 1st house so its symbolic association with anger, conflict, and confrontation will be highly visible over Chiron’s next journey. It’s position in Virgo infers much work toward improving things, working on ourselves, and helping others. With this being the impetus or underlying motivation for Neptune’s manifestation, the theme involving shared resources is underscored. The problem is the square aspects from Mars to the Gemini stellium in the 10th house. Any work from Mars is not going to be easy or it may require a fight. This fight is going to be with those in a position of authority, leadership, or power (10th house). That will probably include a fight against disinformation, manipulation, propaganda, and outright fabrications (Virgo – Gemini square).[vii]

Return – Discovery Chart Comparison

While the return chart shows specific themes that will be a factor, it must also be compared to the original discovery chart. This comparison shows which parts of the discovery chart will activate specifically over the next 50 years. (The bi-wheel chart below contains the return chart on the inner wheel and the discovery chart on the outer wheel.)

The Chiron t-square in the return chart is activating the Mars-Sun square from the discovery chart. This underscores the theme of destabilization that was alluded to earlier. The wounds of materialism, greed, and narcissism that became exacerbated in the discovery chart are contributing to the all-out conflict and destabilization in the return chart.

Also, the Neptune t-square from the return chart is activating the chart ruler, Jupiter, from the discovery chart. This raises the significance of the Neptune t-square and shows that the nurturing that was highlighted in the discovery chart (via Jupiter) is playing a specific role here. It is a driving force in the empathy and sharing of resources symbolized by Neptune.

But the most concerning alignment between these two charts is Saturn’s presence (from the discovery chart) at the ascendant of the return chart. This is a clear indication that the suggestions of fascism and authoritarianism alluded to earlier are the immediate theme of this return. It is being amplified.

With this analysis I have focused on the correlations of the Chiron wound to the dysfunctions of capitalism. Fascism is one of those dysfunctions. As history has repeatedly shown, fascism protects capitalism.[viii] It uses nationalism and racism to distract from class struggle. The capitalistic class backs fascist regimes when liberal democracy is no longer able to contain rising unrest.[ix] As hard as it may be to conceive, when the rich and powerful can no longer persuade allegiance and subservience to their system – when they desire even more power and control (in the form of money and resources and debt) – they always resort to force or authoritarianism (sometimes, violence). And in times of economic desperation, fascism becomes the tool that capitalism uses to protect its wealth (power). This is why the two are intrinsically connected. Many have observed that the United States is displaying many of the historic markers of an economic system and empire in decay. This is why characteristics of authoritarianism are starting to manifest.[x] These are the early rumblings of Chiron’s upcoming return chart with the discovery chart’s 8th house Saturn at its ascendant.

But with every zeitgeist there is always a few figureheads who are avatars of the archetypal impulse. These individuals embody the energies of the time. And given Chiron’s arrival, its focus on our wounding, the nature of that wounding and its manifestation, there is one individual who fits all these characteristics.

Donald Trump

I could offer an exhaustive list of Trump’s scandals and crimes and an encyclopedia could be filled with the many examples of his bad character,[xi] but these points are fairly well known or they can be quickly found through any internet search. Instead, I will offer what I believe to be one of the most accurate depictions of Trump. The following personality evaluation was posted on social media by the writer, Oliver Kornetzke, on August 18, 2025:

“Behold. The festering carcass of American rot shoved into an ill-fitting suit: the sleaze of a conman, the cowardice of a draft dodger, the gluttony of a parasite, the racism of a Klansman, the sexism of a back-alley creep, the ignorance of a bar-stool drunk, and the greed of a hedge-fund ghoul— all spray-painted orange and paraded like a prize hog at a county fair. Not a president. Not even a man. Just the diseased distillation of everything this country swears it isn’t but has always been— arrogance dressed up as exceptionalism, stupidity passed off as common sense, cruelty sold as toughness, greed exalted as ambition, and corruption worshiped like gospel. It is America’s shadow made flesh, a rotting pumpkin idol proving that when a nation kneels before money, power, and spite, it doesn’t just lose its soul – it sh*ts out this bloated obscenity and calls it a leader.”

As far as evaluations go, this is one of the most accurate and blunt I have come across. It quickly went viral in social media. The reason it resonates so powerfully with people (even if they have no knowledge of astrology) is because they can feel the connection of the toxicity of our wound and identify it within Trump as an avatar of everything that wound represents. Almost every bit of Kornetzke’s brief evaluation can be tracked back to the dynamics within the Chiron discovery chart and then even more specifically to alignments within the return chart. From this it seems clear that we must compare Trump’s energies to both charts. (The bi-wheel below contains the return chart on the inner wheel and Trump’s natal chart on the outer wheel.)

It is hard to even know where to start here. The alignment between the two charts is haunting. They are almost indistinguishable. Trump is the Chiron return. But there are a few major alignments that emphasize (or exacerbate) the source of the issues:

  • Trump’s Sun – North Node – Uranus aligned with the return chart’s Gemini stellium indicates that Trump is the leader specifically who is being fought against by the return Mars in the 1st. It is his lies and deception and manipulation that is the source of the conflict.
  • Trump’s Saturn – Venus in Cancer and in square aspect to the return chart’s Saturn is his charismatic authoritarianism that is cracking down politically on our systems of government. It is also his nationalism and causal racism (both Saturns are debilitated). This also reflects his admiration of fascism.
  • Trump’s Pluto aligned with the return chart’s Chiron t-square is his abuse of power – in every way imaginable – to maintain our system of exploitation and Plutocracy. It is his despotism to defend his wealth and those who are equally powerful and wealthy.
  • Trump’s Mars – ascendant aligned with the return chart’s ascendant and the discovery chart’s Saturn is his nastiness, his bullying behavior, his mean-spirited approach to most interactions to get what he wants. Most significantly, these last alignments (which align the houses between charts almost perfectly) powerfully confirm Trump as the core problem of the Chiron return chart, which then also confirms him as the core manifestation of Saturn from Chiron’s discovery chart as well. He is symbolic of all of it and its most insidious representation of the larger wound that affects the entire world and most significantly, the United States.

It may sound strange that one human being could be the focus of a massive chart like Chiron’s, but it is often the case that leaders of countries show prominently through the astrological symbolism in charts that impact humanity because that is exactly the type of impact that leaders have upon us. Because the Chiron return chart governs the next 50 years of humanity’s evolution then Trump’s tight alignment to the dynamics infers something painfully poignant: the damage he is doing now as a result of what he represents will affect us for the duration of this chart. It will be felt for decades. Our grandchildren and great grandchildren will be confronting and healing this.

What Is to Be Done?

To start, cultivate awareness. That awareness must include the realization that capitalism is not intrinsic to humanity. We were here for centuries upon centuries before capitalism arrived and we will still be here after it collapses. That realization is foundational and there are two quotes that capture its essence. The first comes from the famous novelist, Ursula k Le Guin:

“We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable; but then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art. Very often in our art – the art of words.”

And the second comes from the famous civil rights activist, W.E.B. Dubois:

“Capitalism cannot reform itself; it is doomed to self-destruction. No universal selfishness can bring social good to all.”

Capitalism is just a symptom of a wound – humanity’s wound – and it must be managed. That is why this system has accelerated and expanded since Chiron’s arrival and metastasized through Trump. It was getting our attention that this wound has been running (somewhat) unconscious. But defeating Trump, as despotic as he is, will not solve this problem. It is bigger than him. We must address the system as a symptom of something broken within us, within humanity. While we may never cure or heal ourselves completely, awareness and realization can help to identify these symptoms and then start working to see where that wounding has reached us as well. It is a massive journey. We start by being fearlessly honest about our situation,[xii] accept the awareness and realization of everything, and then start teaching others.

Arrows of truth, brothers and sisters. We are broken, but not yet beaten.

[v] If you have ever encountered someone who has their ascendant, Sun, or Moon aligned with the galactic center you will never forget them. They have a presence that fills up the room. Their energy is infectious and unmistakable. Just being around them can impact you in a way that is hard to describe. They channel that powerful galactic center energy without even trying.

[vi] As the epicenter of capitalism, the United States contains unique relevance to a Chiron’s lessons because of key alignments between the United States’ Sibly chart and the discovery chart for Chiron (same Sagittarius ascendant, chart ruler Jupiters in conjunction, Discovery Chart Moon in conjunction with Sibly Sun, Discovery Chart Mars in conjunction with Sibly North Node, Discovery Chart midheaven in conjunction with Sibly Saturn). This is one way the universe is directing our attention to where this wound is the most problematic.

[vii] There is one concerning manifestation here that I would be remiss in glossing over. With Mars ruling the 4th house, this square to the Gemini stellium could manifest in a type of separation into two entities. For the United States this could involve some type of permanent and formal division within the country. Civil war is a real possibility with these alignments.

[viii] When the capitalist system goes unchecked and wealth is concentrated in the hands of a small minority, it can lead to a disproportionate distribution of resources, resulting in economic disparities. In times of economic crisis, these disparities become even more stark, creating the perfect breeding ground for extreme political ideologies, including fascism. Fascism has often been supported by the rich and powerful. This is because fascism, in its promise of national unity and strength, often safeguards the interests of the rich and powerful, protecting their wealth and power from being redistributed. Why is understanding this important? The reason lies in the struggle for economic equality and social justice. While capitalism in its pure form tends to favor the wealthy, and fascism protects these unequal structures, socialism advocates for a society where wealth and power are distributed more evenly among its members. Fascism and socialism are fundamentally opposed on issues relating to class structure and the distribution of wealth and power. By recognizing the potential pitfalls of unchecked capitalism, and the ways in which it can lead to the rise of extreme ideologies like fascism, we can better strive for a society that values equality, justice, and shared prosperity.

[xii] I have been very vocal about Chiron’s involvement in this point in history. In this video I explain its manifestation within the United States’ Sibly chart. It is vitally important that we come to terms, in as many ways as possible, with this wound. It is some of the most important work that humanity can do.
